Pirates: Rickie Lee Jones

Rickie Lee Jones has a magical way of singing a song directly to you, whether your watching her in a crowd performing live or by yourself, alone in a quiet room. Her music is personal, intimate and intense. She uses acoustic folk and piano to infuse just enough jazz, blues and rock to stay interesting and foot tapping catchy. She was mentored by Tom Waits which explains a lot about her style - even though her music is entirely different from Waits, it's possible to hear his influence. 

Jones' most recent album broke a decade long song-writing hiatus with hits like "Have You Had Enough", and she claims passing the Patriot Act and media monopolies prompted her to say something. But her MySpace page uses videos that were posted on UTube - and had been "disabled by request". I found that kind of funny. It seems that disliking media monopolies wasn't enough to stop her from signing up with one.
