BHS: Locust Abortion Technician
"This is the soundtrack to the twisted world you knew existed, but no one ever talked to you about. Track by track, this is a dark journey into the realm of all things scary." -- Amazon review
The Butthole Surfers are arguably one of the most deranged bands out there with their dark, black humor, such as the cover showing blissful clowns playing with the small dog on the cover as intentionally deceitful or twisted. Locust Abortion Technician is more like a collection of nightmares rather than a concept album. Whether you like Butthole Surfers or not, their music seems to sink into the subconscious, making it impossible to forget and a half hour later, you'll realize your humming a tune. As with most of Butthole Surfer albums, there are scattered moments of humor starting with the first song, "Sweat Loaf" - a thinly disguised parody of Black Sabbaths "Sweet Leaf". "Butthole Surfers long reigned among the most twisted and depraved acts ever to bubble up from the American underground. Masters of calculated outrage, the group fused the sicko antics of shock rock with a distinct and chaotic mishmash of avant-garde, hardcore, and Texas psychedelia; sleazy, confrontational, and spiteful, songs like "The Revenge of Anus Presley," "Bar-B-Q Pope," and "The Shah Sleeps in Lee Harvey Oswald's Grave" seemed destined to guarantee the Buttholes little more than a lifetime of cultdom. Yet, by the mid-'90s, they were left-field Top 40 hitmakers, success perhaps their ultimate subversion of mainstream ideals." -- AMG review
